BALLISTIC PROTECTION

FOR WALLS AND STRUCTURES

Soft Armour® is a ballistic protective building material, certified to

EN 1522-FB7 and STANAG 4569-Level 3.

Self-healing       No ricochets       Withstands AP/WC-ammunition
Easy to install       Environmentally friendly      Reusable.

MATERIAL DESCRIPTION

 FUNCTION

  1. The projectile penetrates the outer layer of the wall and hits the granules, causing the projectile to tumble.

  2. The kinetic energy of the tumbling projectile is absorbed conically by the friction between the surrounding granules.

  3. New granules flow down and "heals" the penetrated area of the wall and readies it for another projectile.

 CONSTRUCTION PROPERTIES

  • Density: 1450 kg/m3
  • Thermal Insulation: Lambda= 0,27 W/mK (which corresponds to compact wood)
  • Fire Insulation: EI30 (However, if enclosing material has higher resistance class, Soft Armour is increased)
  • Sound Insulation: Rw 47 dB at 95 mm material thickness
  • Non-corrosive
  • Non-magnetic
  • Non-conductive
  • Does not absorb moisture
  • Vapor permeable

APPLICATION EXAMPLES

Soft Armour is the perfect wall construction material for ballistic protection in our increasingly more  violent society.

  • Public Service with an increased threat level such as social offices, migration offices, prisons and police stations greatly benefit from using Soft Armour as ballistic protection method.

  • Lining walls with Soft Armour in public spaces such as airports, bus- & train stations and shopping malls, reduces the effects of shootings or bombs.

  • Protecting infrastructure such as power-, electrical-, water-, computer- and sewage installations are perfect fits for Soft Armour.

  • Safe rooms and entrances in private housings, corporate buildings, hotels, restaurants and night clubs are other examples of where Soft Armour is the smartest choice of ballistic protection method.

  • Reception desks and other room dividers can be padded with Soft Armour, creating a ballistically protected shelter to hide behind.

INSTALLATION PRINCIPLES

A Soft Armour Wall is simply erected by using standard wall-building methods:

  • Raise U-shaped steel studs with c/c 30 cm

  • Attach 18 mm plywood wall surfaces to the steel studs with 10 cm distance between screws.
    • The first wall surface is built with standing sheets, just like normal.
    • The second wall surface is built with lie-down sheets, making the filling of pellets easier.
    • When approaching the ceiling and pouring of pellets is no longer possible, fill plastic bags with pellets and push them into the remaining void.
    • If needed cover with one additional layer of drywall for estethics.

  • DO NOT INSTALL CABLES OR PIPING INSIDE WALL!
The material thickness will be reduced, and full protection will not be achieved.

  • DO NOT USE ONLY DRYWALL AS ENCLSURE!
    Drywall shatters when shot on.

TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION

  • Soft Armour General Introduction (Seminar)
A 1-2 h seminar introducing the Soft Armour technology to real estate owners, construction companies, construction designers, architets, etc.

  • Design of ballistic walls (Training & Certification)
A full day training, including everything from weapons and ammunition knowledge to understanding how to intrepretate ballistic design rules and certifications.  You will build  a test wall and actually shoot at it to confirm the function of a Soft Armour equipped wall. After a final test, the student is "Soft Armour Designer"-certified

  • Soft Armour Building (Training & Certification)
A full day of practical training in how to build structures with Soft Armour material. After a final test, the student is "Soft Armour Builder"-certified

SOFT ARMOUR PRODUCTS

 PADDINGS

Soft Armour Padding is a system of nylon bags, sewn with channels containing Soft Armour ceramic pellets.

It is a very useful product for temporary ballistic protection of manned guard stations, material storage hubs or technical installations. It can also be used inside vehicles for temporary ballistic protection.

Container protection with external mounted tailored paddings is another useful product for temporary protection.

The padding withstands 7,62 x 51 AP (Tungsten Carbide) projectiles, as well as being a very potent protection against shrapnel. Protects to the level STANAG 4569-3.

     MODULAR

A ballistic protection in the form of a modular system - easy to build and remove – that protects from 7,62 x 51 AP (Tungsten Carbide) as well as being a very potent protection against shrapnel.

The possibilities are endless! Thanks to the sleek design (compared to Sandbags, Hesco etc.) you can easily build guard shacks, vehicle “garages”, “pockets” where a standard container is protected, chicanes for vehicle controls and so on.

It is the perfect solution at places where there is no sand or earth to fill bags with, you only have to bring material for a 12 cm thick wall to reach STANAG 4569-3.

        SHIELD

      Transportable ballistic protective wall panels.

Typical use is when protecting VIP moving in public areas, police road blocks or - with wheels mounted – as a front protection when advancing in hostile narrow corridors etc.

The shield withstands 7,62 x 51 AP (Tungsten Carbide) projectiles, as well as being a very potent protection against shrapnel.

Protects to the level STANAG 4569-3.

         UNLOAD BOOTH

A transportable “walk in box” for unloading of small arms. For use in situations where a “stray bullet” from an unloading mistake can be dangerous.

Typical examples are where there are armed guards loading and unloading their weapons on a regular basis, for example in explosive areas such as an oil refinery or where there is a lot of people nearby such as a temporary military exhibition.

The Unload box holds 7,62 x 51 AP (Tungsten Carbide) projectiles and of course smaller calibers such as M39B-9mm and the 4,6 x 30 mm steel tip (MP7) ammunition.
